Karen McCormick - President
I entered the field of Special Education in 1986. It was the dawn of the Americans with Disabilities Act Toward Independence. Having been an advocate from the beginning of this change has molded me into the person I am today. Over the past 36 years, I have had the privilege of learning from the best, my clients and students. From volunteering and working in classrooms, to directing programs, the journey has brought me tremendous joy. Today I find myself with a vision of wellness, partnership, and inclusivity for people with special needs and their loved ones. My vision to create a community of friendship that is easily accessible and affordable starts here, with Comfort and Joy. It has been and will be my biggest achievement and blessing.
Don Vruwink - Vice President
Don was born in Auburndale, Wisconsin. He graduated from Auburndale High School and went on to earn his B.A. in Broad Field Social Studies and Political Science, along with a Coaching Minor from the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point. Don received his M.A. in History from the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater. A retired teacher from the Milton School District, today Don is a full-time legislator, substitute teacher, and softball and baseball umpire. Formerly, Don was the Parks and Recreation Director for the city of Milton and served on the City Council and School Board. He also served in many coaching roles (basketball, football, basketball) for Milton High School. Don and his wife have one child.
Laura Stoller - Secretary
Inspired by the dedication and passion of the founder of Comfort and Joy, Laura Stoller was eager to support such an amazing program from the get go. As a teacher in the Oregon School District with more than 25 years experience in the education field, Laura understands the value of offering assistance, expertise and support to families who need it. With a nephew who has autism, she knows first hand the importance of having qualified and loving respite care and is thrilled for the Oregon area to have such a service available.
Delia Markham - Treasurer
Delia Markham has a bachelor's degree in accounting. She has 30+ years of accounting experience. Delia lives with her family in Oregon, WI.
