Don was born in Auburndale, Wisconsin. He graduated from Auburndale High School and went on to earn his B.A. in Broad Field Social Studies and Political Science, along with a Coaching Minor from the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point. Don received his M.A. in History from the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater. A retired teacher from the Milton School District, today Don is a full-time legislator, substitute teacher, and softball and baseball umpire. Formerly, Don was the Parks and Recreation Director for the city of Milton and served on the City Council and School Board. He also served in many coaching roles (basketball, football, basketball) for Milton High School. Don and his wife have one child.
